Voting begins April 8 for Staff Council representation

Staff Council groupEditor's note: An email was sent to staff April 11. There are a total of 53 staff members on the ballot, but bylaws allow individuals to vote only within their job functional area. Emailed links direct the recipient to the appropriate ballot.

Elections for staff interested in joining the UNT Staff Council will be Friday, April 8 through Friday, April 15.

Be on the lookout for an email April 8 with details regarding the election and a link the electronic voting site. Paper ballots will also be distributed in areas with limited access to email.

Nomination forms were mailed by intercampus mail and email before spring break. Candidates were self-nominated or nominated by peers/co-workers.

The number of candidates on the ballot are listed by job function category. Each member of the staff will vote only for representatives in their job functional area. Fifty-six candidates were nominated.
Current Staff Council Officers are: 

  • Hillary Talatzko, vice chair; academic coordinator, Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions
  • Jamie Blanton, vice chair; coordinator, Student Services, Orientation and Transition Programs
  • Rachel McMullen, secretary; assistant director, Student Services, Mean Green Athletics
  • Valerie Nelson Thornton, parliamentarian; sign language interpreter, Office of Disability Accommodation
  • Jennifer Lee, webmaster; assistant director, Academic Services, College of Education

The Staff Council serves as a formal way for university staff to communicate with campus constituents regarding issues relevant to staff members. The Staff Council seeks to advance the university’s mission and strategic plans, paying particular attention to issues and interests that impact UNT’s more than 2,600 staff members.
