Videoconferencing with CLEAR — go anywhere, stay here

Videoconference Room Chilton 131

The Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign recently expanded the UNT Videoconference Network by renovating and equipping one new room and upgrading an existing videoconference room, both in Chilton Hall.

These enhancements promote sustainability and cost savings by accommodating increased demand for videoconferencing.

There is no charge for the use of rooms or technicians if room use is affiliated with UNT. Many connections are established for free using high-bandwidth internet connections.  All videoconferences are fully-supported by an expert staff.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to use the videoconference resources to meet with colleagues, conduct or participate in interviews, to bring guest lecturers to classes, and for many other possibilities. Every day university community members are using this service to meet with colleagues in Dallas, Fort Worth, other universities and businesses in the United States, and many places around the world.

An executive videoconference room located in Chilton Hall, Room 131, above, is the newest addition to the network. This premier videoconference room seats 10 and is suitable for interviewing job candidates, arranging dissertation defenses and hosting other administrative meetings. The room features high-definition videoconference technology from Tandberg. A 52-inch LCD monitor delivers crisp video images and presentations. A Dell Studio XPS8100 computer includes a Blu-Ray DVD player and standard desktop applications for multimedia presentations and collaborative sessions.

A participant’s laptop can be plugged into the videoconference system. An overhead camera is located in the ceiling to allow transmission of video images from 3-D objects and documents. A tiny wireless microphone placed on the conference table captures and reproduces participants' voices for transmission. This room also features energy-efficient, fully-dimmable fluorescent and LED lighting.

Chilton Hall, Room 245, perhaps the most heavily used videoconference room in the network, was recently upgraded to benefit from high-definition equipment. This room seats 40 and features a 6-foot-by-10-foot image displayed on the special-treated surface of the front wall.

Stereo speakers are within the projection wall, which allows the remote speaker’s voice to emanate from the image of the person shown on-screen. An overhead document camera is in the ceiling. Two ceiling mounted microphones pick up the voices of everyone in the room without amplifying ambient room noise. A custom touch panel is used to control the system and change the layout of what is projected on the front wall.

Other campus videoconference facilities are located at Discovery Park, Gateway Center, Mean Green Village,  Life Sciences Complex and the Radio, Television, Film and Performing Arts building. Videoconference rooms are also available at UNT Dallas, UNT Health Science Center  and the UNT System office.
