UTEP administrator named controller for UNT and system

J. Carlos Hernandez, controllerCarlos Hernandez, right, associate vice president for business affairs and comptroller at the University of Texas at El Paso, has been named controller and associate vice president for finance.

Hernandez also will serve as the controller for the UNT System.

“Carlos Hernandez’ rich knowledge of the interfaces required with the state accounting and payroll systems is extensive.  The breadth and depth of knowledge and experience with state financial reporting requirements are critical to UNT and the UNT System as we move forward in reaching our respective strategic goals,” said Jean Bush, senior associate vice president for finance.

“Carlos also brings to UNT many years of experience in analyzing the potential financial impact of pending legislation during the state Legislative cycle, a rich and deep knowledge of formula funding, and continued active involvement with accounting principles committees at both the state and national level.“

Hernandez has 22 years of experience in Texas higher education financial accounting and administration.

Hernandez served as comptroller at UTEP. He joined the UTEP staff in 1988 as an accountant and has been a financial analyst and associate comptroller, and associate vice president for business affairs and comptroller Hernandez is a certified public accountant and holds a doctorate in education from UTEP.

Former controller Ginny Anderson retired in May after more than 40 years service with UNT.
