UNT Press director to discuss partnership with conservation program

Ron ChrismanRon Chrisman, director of the UNT Press, will be among three speakers on a Collaboration in Scholarly Publishing panel presented on Google+ at noon Nov. 12.

The panel is being offered online by the Association of American University Presses during University Press Week Nov. 9-15. Chrisman will discuss the UNT Press collaboration with UNT’s Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program and the University of Magallanes in Chile to produce Magellanic Sub-Antarctic Ornithology: First Decade of Long-Term Bird Studies at the Omora Ethnobotanical Park, Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve, the first synthesis of current knowledge of forest and wetland birds in the world’s southernmost forests. The book, published in November 2013, contains original work by researchers from UNT and the University of Magallanes, as well as the results of a decade of research conducted by the scientists associated with the Omora Park.

The other panelists will be Peter J. Dougherty, director of the Princeton University Press, and Barbara Kline Pope, current president of the Association of American University Presses and executive director for communications at the National Academies Press. Jennifer Howard, a senior reporter for the Chronicle of Higher Education who covers publishing and scholarly communication, will be the moderator.

The discussion begins at noon on Nov. 12.
