UNT Opera enchants with Massenet's version of Cinderella

Paula HomerUNT Opera brings a classic fairy tale to life with its production of Jules Massenet's Cendrillon (Cinderella) Nov. 8, 10, 15 and 17 in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, Lyric Theater.

The opera, sung in French with English supertitles, tells the familiar story of Cendrillon (Cinderella), her mean stepmother and stepsisters, and her fairy godmother, who gives Cendrillon a reprieve from her rough life – and a chance at love – by granting her wish to attend the prince's ball.

"This is the children's fairytale that we all know and love, but it is also a romantic love story with lush music, magical appearances and slap-stick comedy so every age will be enchanted," said UNT Opera Director Paula Homer, above. "Everyone can be assured that the whole family will love this opera experience."

Stephen Dubberly, conductor of the opera orchestra, will present an "In the Know" lecture about Cendrillon 45 minutes before each performance.

The opera will be performed at 8 p.m. Nov. 8 and 15, and 3 p.m. Nov. 10 and 17.

Tickets cost from $15 to $35. The $35 tickets include floor seating, dessert and wine. Purchase tickets online or call 940-369-7802.
