UNT joins National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

Feb. 8, 2016

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

An important role of the university is to ensure the success of its faculty, staff and students by providing them with the resources they need to advance in their careers. There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to do so, especially when it comes to supporting a diverse campus community such as ours. We are aware, however, that there are areas in which we can improve to meet the needs of underrepresented groups.

One way we are strengthening resource support is by joining the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). An independent and external mentoring community, NCFDD is dedicated to helping faculty, staff and graduate students enhance their productivity in areas such as research and writing while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

UNT made the decision to join NCFDD after hearing from many of you — particularly those of you from underrepresented groups — about the need for greater access to resources to help you advance professionally. An advantage of being a member institution is that all UNT faculty, staff and graduate students, including underrepresented groups, can benefit from NCFDD's helpful tools and resources.

NCFDD provides online workshops and webinars on topics such as individualized career coaching, effective writing, leadership and professional development. There also are networking opportunities for graduate students, support for new and underrepresented faculty, and virtual faculty success boot camps. As a member of the UNT community, you can access many of these resources for free. I hope that each of you will take time to learn more about what NCFDD has to offer and register to take advantage of UNT’s membership. All UNT faculty, staff and graduate students are eligible to register immediately.

To learn more about NCFDD, how it might benefit you, and how to register, please visit UNT’s Office of Faculty Success website at facultysuccess.unt.edu.

Sincerely,

Finley Graves
