UNT compliance director to be a direct report

June 3, 2016

Dear faculty and staff,

Our passion for helping students drives each of us to do our jobs well, while the laws, rules and policies that govern our university ensure that we do our jobs right. Our observance of applicable laws, safety regulations, UNT System Board of Regents rules, institutional policies and ethical business practices is essential to how we do business and carry out our mission.

Compliance, which touches every part of our university, is growing increasingly more complex and important in nature. Institutional compliance is so important that I have determined that it is most appropriate for UNT’s compliance unit and its leadership to report directly to me and work closely with members of the President’s Cabinet.

A search is underway for a Director of Institutional Compliance. The compliance director will be responsible for ensuring that we adhere to laws and maintain our commitment to legal, ethical and appropriate conduct while being a supportive partner in helping us with institutional compliance. I hope to have a new director in place in the next few months.

Meanwhile, please join me in thanking Steven Hill for his service in this position and support his success as he takes on his new role as Director of Business Development for UNT.

Compliance is important to our ongoing success, and this move will help us maintain our high standards.

Sincerely,Neal Smatresk
