University travel suspended to selected areas of Mexico

UNT is updating the travel restriction to Mexico for students, faculty and staff to include all states listed on the U.S. Department of State Travel Warning list for Mexico.

Travel to Mexico is suspended for the seven border states, to Tamaulipas and Michoacán, and to parts of the states of Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sinaloa, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi and Jalisco.

UNT students, and faculty-led student programs sponsored by UNT, may not travel to destinations on the travel warning list for university purposes.

Faculty and staff travelling for official university business to any location in Mexico must receive written permission from the appropriate dean or vice president prior to departure. Any UNT employee traveling without authorization does so as a private citizen and not under the auspices of UNT. Additionally, UNT’s international insurance will not cover any UNT employee who travels in locations listed in a State Department Travel Warning.

UNT is fortunate to have extensive resources with which to advise students and faculty about travel to Mexico through the Office of Global Learning and Experiences, UNT-UAEM Academic Liaison Office and among staff at UNT-International.

  • Questions? Contact Gabriel Carranza, assistant vice provost, 940-369-8177; Richard Menard, director of Global Learning and Experiences, 940-565-4418; or Manuel Goel, director of the UNT-UAEM Office, 940-565-2497.

Regardless of destination, UNT-International recommends all international travelers take appropriate precautions to protect their safety and health. The safety of UNT students, faculty and staff is of the utmost importance.
