Technology makes the millennial

Smartphones, tablets, laptops, video game consoles and more – recent reports show that millennials live digitally-connected lives. This concept will be explored as the theme of the student-run spring fashion show hosted by Merchandising Inc. at the University of North Texas. This year’s theme, “Digital Glitch,” will portray the progression of technology and the virtual hold technology has on upcoming generations. 2015 Merchandising fashion show

Doors open at 5 p.m., and the event begins at 5:30 p.m. April 24 inside the Ballroom (Room 314 A&B) of UNT’s University Union, located at 1155 Union Circle in Denton. Tickets purchased online in advance are $5; tickets purchased at the door are $7; and VIP tickets are $8.50. Buy at http://www.merchandisingincorporated.com/ticket-sales.

“Technology is increasingly taking over millennials’ lives in a way that is contrasting to its positive advancements,” says Maia Wilson, producer of the fashion show. “One of the things we wanted to do through this show was illustrate this evolution through fashion, as well as captivating visuals, music, short films and lighting that recreates the digital experience.”

Tightly-bound sheer, mesh and leather fabric; contrasting bright, pastel, metallic and neutral colors; and unique textures in the show’s two acts will serve as an exploration of society’s pre-technology past and the technological transformations taking place through today’s young adults.

The annual Merchandising Inc. fashion show is a UNT student production that gives merchandising, fashion, home furnishing and retailing students hands-on experience in their future fields. Students are in charge of all aspects of the event, including the concept creation, model search, set direction and promotion.
