Submit your ideas to enhance student learning

Nov. 6, 2013

UNT is preparing for reaccreditation of the university, which is done every 10 years by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Maintaining accreditation allows the university to continue to participate in federal financial aid programs, which many of our students use to pay for tuition.

It also verifies the high standards that UNT holds for its programs, giving added value to the degrees we impart and national recognition for the hard work performed by our faculty and staff.

Reaccreditation includes an evaluation of UNT’s standards by two outside committees of our peers in higher education.

The accrediting body also requires UNT to submit a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which is an opportunity for us to have a university-wide discussion about student learning. The Quality Enhancement Plan is one of our best opportunities to enhance student learning.

Right now, the Quality Enhancement Plan Team – made up of faculty, staff, students and alumni – needs ideas for the plan.

Your input will help determine the focus of the plan.

The UNT community – students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the university – are encouraged to come up with ideas for ways to improve student learning university-wide. We will accept ideas from now through Dec. 9 at

That website offers additional information about the QEP – including some of the basic requirements - and gives a link to a survey where you can tell us your ideas for improving student learning at UNT.

Once the initial ideas have been gathered, UNT’s QEP Leadership Team will focus on the topics that are most mentioned and we’ll again ask for your feedback to narrow down ideas for the plan. The focus of the plan is expected to be finalized and announced in fall 2014.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email QEP Leadership Committee Co-Facilitators Mike Simmons or Lisa Henry.
