Student awarded scholarship from Texas City Management Association

Misty Ricketts, a master of public administration student, has received a $3,500 Clarence E. Ridley Scholarship from the Texas City Management Association.

The association, which is comprised of government professionals dedicated to promoting the highest standards of governance, service, leadership, ethics and education, provides up to three Ridley Scholarships each year to graduate students pursuing degrees in public administration, public affairs or urban affairs. The Ridley Scholarship competition began in 1957 and is named for a longtime executive director of the International City/County Management Association.

The university of each Ridley Scholarship winner is awarded $1,500 in credit toward Texas City Management Association and Texas Municipal League educational events.

Ricketts has been employed by the City of Irving since September 2008. She is currently the city’s senior management analyst for the Financial Services Department, managing Irving’s more than $400 million investment portfolio, monitoring daily cash flow and collateral and overseeing merchant card services. She has also worked as a senior management analyst and executive assistant in the city manager’s office.

Since 2009, Ricketts has received four On-the-Spot Awards from the City of Irving. She was also awarded a scholarship from Texas Women in Public Finance and a fellowship from the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas.

She received her bachelor’s degree in business from LeTourneau University in 2008 and expects to complete her master of public administration degree from UNT in May 2017.
