State Employees Charitable Campaign begins with Oct. 6 picnic

Here is a message from staff campaign co-chair Denise Harpool, left, administrative assistant, Facilities. Faculty co-chair is Jerry Thomas, below left, dean of the College of Education. Denise HarpoolDear UNT Community,

We are ready to start an exciting push for the 2010 State Employees Charitable Campaign, known as SECC. I am pleased to serve as your co-chair, along with Jerry Thomas, dean of the College of Education, for the 2010 campaign. Our goal is pledges of $200,000 and 50 percent employee participation.

The annual campaign gives employees an opportunity to make tax-deductible donations to more than 400 local and state charitable programs. The campaign was created by legislation for Texas state agency and higher education employees.

Pledge forms will be sent to department coordinators the first week of October. Coordinators also may pick up packets at the Oct. 6 picnic.

There will be a Kick-off Picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Library Mall area. Hamburgers and fixings with chips, a cookie and Coke product will be served for a $5 donation to SECC. Please plan to attend and give us your support.

The picnic will have representatives from several of the United Way agencies that SECC supports. You may stop by their tables and displays and learn about their services to our community.

Celebrity waiters

We will also be sponsoring Celebrity Waiter events at Avesta Restaurant, in the  University Union, second level, on Thursdays in October (Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28).

Golf tournament

On Oct. 18 we will be hosting the 11th annual UNT-Schneider Electric-SECC Golf Tournament at Oakmont Country Club. The tournament is a Florida scramble with four player teams. Please contact Sue Delmark at 940-565-2275 or visit the tournament site for information. Last year we raised more than $13,000. This year’s goal is $19,000.

We are very excited about our campaign this year; please help make 2010 a great year for the State Employees Charitable Campaign.
