Special international student groups arrive at UNT

Aleka Myre, Director of Sponsored and Special Programs, talks with a new student

In addition to the general international student population at UNT, several special groups are beginning classes this week.

"Exchange students" come for just one semester or year, as part of a degree program in another country.  UNT sends Denton students to those countries in exchange for them, so students from both countries receive an international education experience.

"Sponsored students" are sponsored by governments or educational agencies.  They receive special assistance as they arrive and matriculate at UNT.

Many students come to UNT for the Intensive English Language Program, and many sponsored students are also part of "IELI." In this highly ranked program, students learn academic English in preparation for their US educational careers.
