Saturdays in the UNT Art Galleries offers free family fun Oct. 5

Saturdays in the GalleryFamilies looking for fun and free weekend activities can find just that at Saturdays in the UNT Galleries, a program being offered by the UNT Art Galleries and the student chapter of the National Art Education Association.

The fall season’s event is from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Art Building, Room 100. The programs starts with standing yoga stretches with instructor Lisa Furrh and a poetry reading by Lynn Lewis, followed by a scavenger hunt outside, led by visiting artists, to collect natural objects with which to make one’s own sculpture.

The family activities are inspired by the Art Building’s current exhibition, Beyond Natural, which features sculptures in various media by eight contemporary American artists. The artworks explore the relationship between humans and nature.

Both the Saturdays in the UNT Galleries event and the Beyond Natural exhibition are free to visitors.

While some parking may be available along the street, parking is also available at the Union Street Garage on Union Circle at Welch Street, one block from the Art Building. Cost is $2 an hour.

Saturdays in the UNT Galleries is offered four weekends a year. Activities include artist presentations and art-making activities led by undergraduate art educators.
