Richmond named director of parking and transportation.

Joe Richmond, Parking and TransportationJoe Richmond, a veteran of more than 30 years in the transportation industry, has been named director of parking and transportation.

Richmond, who has been serving as interim director of parking and transportation, has been at UNT since 2003 when he was tasked with designing and implementing the shuttle service as well as other alternative transportation programs. Since implementation of the shuttle service with six buses and approximately 2,000 riders per day, the system has grown to 27 buses and 15,000 daily passengers.

Richmond also developed UNT’s expanded bike program, web-based ridesharing and the car-share program.

Richmond joined UNT after 18 years with the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Austin, where he specialized in university-related transportation, serving as the liaison between the transportation authority and the University of Texas.

Richmond’s immediate projects in his new post will be to open the new Highland Street parking garage and moving the Parking and Transportation office into the parking garage later this summer.

Chief of Police Richard Deter commented, “I have worked closely with Joe since his arrival and been most impressed with his willingness to address problems and issues and work toward successful resolutions.  Joe currently works with student, staff, faculty and community groups to address the challenges of parking and transportation on the UNT campus and will approach his new position with a continuing commitment to enhancing parking and transportation options as well as, improving the customer service experience.”
