Regents approve agreement joining UNT Alumni Association, university

UNT Alumni Association President Ben Joyner, UNT Alumni Association President-Elect Mark Miller, Vice President for Advancement Michael Monticino, President V. Lane Rawlins and UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson.

The UNT community celebrated a new agreement that will more closely align the UNT Alumni Association and the university at a ceremony before the Mean Green’s season-opener home football game Aug. 31. The partnership, approved by the UNT System Board of Regents Aug. 16, aims to enhance alumni and student networking opportunities and create new membership services.

Under the agreement, alumni relations staff members will become university employees within the Division of Advancement. Additionally, the association and Advancement will combine their alumni engagement efforts to provide more services and support. The alumni association will remain a nonprofit organization with an independent board of directors.

Monticino said strengthening the bond between the university and the alumni association shows that UNT is more committed than ever to its more than 350,000 alumni.

“Alumni are the university’s strongest advocates and supporters. This agreement confirms the commitment of UNT to our alumni and our alumni to the future of the university,” he said. “Together we will accomplish great things as one UNT family.”

Joyner said the agreement will help the alumni association connect with alumni on a broader scale.

“Today we’re writing a new chapter in the history of alumni relations at UNT,” he said. “UNT is committing significant resources to ensure the success of our alumni-engagement activities, and I’d like to thank the university leadership for working with us toward a common goal.”
