Private Investigator Certificate Program earns top 5 national ranking

The Private Investigator Certificate Program, which began in 2010, has been ranked in the top five best private investigation training programs in the country by PInow.com, a national web resource providing information on private investigators.

Scott Belshaw“The success of this program is a team effort,” said Scott Belshaw, UNT criminal justice assistant professor and executive director of the program. “It starts with the founding board members all the way to the faculty. Each faculty member brings to the table a diverse and unique perspective of the private investigations industry and how to be successful in it. That, along with the guidance and support from the Professional Development Institute and the Department of Criminal Justice at UNT, is the reason for its current and continued success.”

The Private Investigator Certificate Program is taught by professional faculty, attorneys and practitioners in the field of private investigation. The program not only trains participants in the theory and practice of private investigations, but also includes a business education component. After completing the program, students are able to launch their own private investigations businesses, or work in fields such as insurance, law and business.

UNT’s program is the only such program approved by the State of Texas to allow students to immediately take the state private investigator licensing exam.
