Poetry workshop aimed at children in grades K-12 and families

Lynn LewisA UNT alumna and award-winning poet will lead a poetry workshop April 12 for children in grades K-12 and their families.

The free event, which will run from 1 to 3 p.m. in the UNT Art Gallery, is the final spring program for Saturdays in the UNT Art Gallery.

The workshop will be led by Fort Worth poet Lynn Lewis, right, who earned a biology degree from UNT. She received the 2012 winner of the Poetry Society of Texas’ Edwin M. Eakin Memorial Book Publication Award, and published a collection of her poetry last year, Somewhere to Come From, Just This Side of Paradise.

The 54th annual Voertman Student Art Competition also will be on view in the gallery. The exhibition features a juried selection of new works in different media by graduate and undergraduate UNT art and design students.

Saturdays at the UNT Art Gallery offers family events four times each year, with visiting artists’ presentations and art making activities led by undergraduate art educators in the CVAD student chapter of the National Art Education Association.
