Poe Ballantine to speak as part of Visiting Writers Series

Author Poe BallantineAuthor Poe Ballantine is scheduled to read from "Love and Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere: A Memoir" as part of the UNT Visiting Writers Series at 8 p.m. Nov. 13, in Sage Hall, Room 116.  

He will also conduct a question-and-answer session at 4 p.m. in the Language Building, Room 316.

Born in Denver, raised in San Diego  Ballantine, right, spent most of his adult life traveling, taking odd jobs, and living on four hundred dollars a month. He has published two essay collections, two novels and one memoir. He won two Best American Essays, the most recent "Free Rent at the Totalitarian Hotel." In 1998 he won a Best American Short Story for the "Blue Devils of Blue River Avenue."
 
He lives in Chadron, Neb. with his wife, Cristina, and 10-year-old son, Tom.
 
The UNT Barnes & Noble Bookstore will offer Ballantine's books. The event is sponsored by the creative writing program in the Department of English.
