PeopleSoft financial package launch delayed until March

Aug. 31, 2015

The PeopleSoft Upgrade for Finance implementation date originally planned to launch Sept. 1 has been rescheduled to March 1, 2016. The new date has been set to ensure effective coordination with other finance initiatives, such as the chart of accounts redesign. The Hyperion Planning system will be implemented later.

This additional time will enable a more robust implementation with a deeper focus on process improvement and training. The overall project – now named the Financial Improvement Transition (FIT) program – will take on a program structure to combine all three initiatives; the PeopleSoft system upgrade, a new way to do budgets with Hyperion and the chart of accounts re-design.

The FIT program will have a wide impact on all areas of UNT System’s finance and business practices. All UNT System campuses will use certain applications of the program to improve functions such as; streamlined purchase order requests and approvals, automated and integrated travel expenses through the PeopleSoft system, and improvements to the budgeting process using Hyperion Planning. These improved business functions have been designed to leverage the newly re-designed chart of accounts.

UNT System uses PeopleSoft Finance to streamline many financial processes. The upgrade includes improvements to areas including the general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, grants and asset management finance functions. The chart of accounts redesign includes creating new department IDs and account values and additional fields to facilitate better reporting. The new chart of accounts values will be used for fiscal year 2016 to create more consistency and improve reporting capabilities. The Hyperion Planning system is being implemented to facilitate building budgets using the new chart of accounts. The system also will be used to create UNT System Board of Regents financial reports and to produce other financial management reports.

To help with organizing program objectives, a new steering committee has been put into place. The steering committee has a high level of participation and representation from all UNT System finance and business related departments.

The steering committee members are:

  • Janet Waldron, UNT System vice chancellor for finance
  • Bob Brown, UNT vice president for finance and administration
  • John Harmon, UNT Health Science Center chief financial officer
  • Dan Edelman, UNT Dallas chief financial officer
  • Donna Asher, associate vice chancellor for Business Services
  • Paige Smith, UNT System associate vice chancellor of budget
  • Dan Stephens, associate vice chancellor and System finance controller
  • Don Sabani, UNT System senior director of business process improvements and reporting
  • Jane-Anne Kanke, senior director of financial systems support & reporting
  • Rama Dhuwaraha, ITSS chief technology officer and interim CIO
  • Dorothy Flores, ITSS executive director of Enterprise Applications
  • Kem Marcum, ITSS director of ERP Applications

In addition, the business process improvement department will support the overall success of the FIT Program by providing governance and project management support. That department will partner with campus leads to ensure communication needs are being addressed appropriately with the right level of detail.

That team includes:

  • Don Sabani, senior director of Business Process Improvement
  • Bradley Stephens, associate director of Business Process Improvement
  • Andrea Lillie, associate director of Business Process Improvement
  • Michelle (Fife) Boyd, BPI support/change management and training

The new program structure and support of key campus and functional leads will help us meet necessary milestones and be better prepared for implementation.
