New College of Information dean named

June 29, 2016

Dear UNT faculty and staff,

I am pleased to welcome a new dean to the Division of Academic Affairs. Dr. Kinshuk, who goes by a single name, has been selected to lead UNT’s College of Information. He joins UKinshukNT effective Aug. 15.

Dr. Kinshuk (right) brings more than a decade of higher education leadership to his new position as dean, and has expertise and extensive research experience in the field of learning technologies. Dr. Kinshuk currently is associate dean for faculty of science and technology at Athabasca University in Canada, where he also serves as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Chair in Adaptivity and Personalization in Informatics. He also is a professor in the university’s School of Computing and Information Systems.

Dr. Kinshuk earned his Ph.D. in learning technologies from DeMontfort University in England. He also holds a master’s degree in mechanical computer-aided engineering from Strathclyde University in Scotland and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Rajasthan University in India.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Kinshuk to our university, and in thanking the search committee and its chair Dorothy Bland, dean of UNT’s Mayborn School of Journalism, for their excellent work. I also want to thank Dr. Victor Prybutok for his service as interim dean of the College of Information. After Dr. Kinshuk assumes his duties, Dr. Prybutok will turn his focus to serving as vice provost for the Toulouse Graduate School, a position he assumed in May.

In other news from Academic Affairs, the search for a vice provost for International Affairs continues, and a search for a new dean of the College of Education is well underway with College of Arts and Sciences dean David Holdeman leading the search committee. As I reported previously, Dr. Bertina Hildreth Combes will assume leadership of the College of Education as interim dean effective Aug. 1, following the retirement of Dr. Jerry Thomas.

As always, thank you for all you do as faculty and staff members to make this university and our students successful.

Sincerely,Provost Finley Graves
