Nader selected as German Academic Exchange Service fellow

Rick Nader

Rick Nader, vice provost for International Affairs, has been selected to participate in the “Internationalizing Higher Education - Strategic Approaches, Funding Formats and Best Practice Examples” offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) June 16-22.

Nader was selected from applicants representing universities, research institutions and funding agencies in the United States and Canada to visit top institutions in Germany. Staff from DAAD visited UNT in February 2013 and participated in the Global Research Funding Forum.

“I believe DAAD was impressed by UNT and the support UNT is providing for faculty and students desiring to globalize their research and education experiences,” Nader said.

During the upcoming forum, participants will discuss internationalization strategies, trans-Atlantic mobility, joint sustainability-related research and new study and research abroad opportunities for students.

The German Academic Exchange Service is a publicly-funded, independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany that provides financial support to more than 67,000 highly-qualified students and faculty each year for international research and study in all academic disciplines.

All program-related costs in Europe (accommodation, travel, meals) will be covered by DAAD.

UNT hopes to increase the number of students from Germany through this visit. UNT has less than a dozen students from Germany among the 2,100 international students who enrolled at UNT last year.

“Germany is a traditional powerhouse in academic and research in fields where UNT is also strong and growing,” Nader said. “I am honored to be selected and hope to bring new opportunities and fresh ideas to UNT in partnership with German institutions.”
