Military historian Citino available at book signing

Robert Citino, professor of historyRobert Citino, right, professor of history, will sign copies of his latest book, The Wehrmacht Retreats: Fighting a Lost War, 1943, from 1 to 3 p.m. June 16 at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Denton’s Golden Triangle Mall.

Published in March by the University of Kansas Press, The Wehrmacht Retreats chronicles the weakening German Army and offers fresh, vivid and detailed treatments of key campaigns during 1943: the Allied landings in North Africa, Gen. Erich von Manstein’s great counterstroke in front of Kharkov, the German attack at Kasserine Pass, the titanic engagement of tanks and men at Kursk, the Soviet counteroffensives at Orel and Belgorod, and the Allied landings in Sicily and Italy. 

Citino, a faculty member since 2009, is the author of eight other books on German military history. In 2007, he was ranked “#1 professor in the United States” by the online student rating service He has appeared as a consultant on the History Channel several times on the subject of World War II and German military tactics and publishes a weekly online column, “Front and Center,” for World War II magazin.
