Mentoring program will give students an edge in job market

PLP Banner

It's a common student lament: can't figure out how to get foot in the door, can't find a professional network to assist in the job hunt. Faculty and staff can help these students by directing them to the Professional Leadership Program.

The program is an established and elite program focused on servant leadership and professional development. The program:

  • allows students to network with and be mentored by top DFW business leaders
  • helps students develop professional leadership skills
  • provides confidence needed for students to enter the workforce

North Texas executives work one-on-one with program members to teach and help students establish a professional network before graduation. Students benefit from this program by getting education beyond the classroom, meeting business contacts across the United States, gaining applied professional leadership experience, developing as a community leader and improving interpersonal skills, all of which give them added market value upon graduation.

Minimum requirements for student membership include:

  • junior or senior status by Fall 2011; graduate students are eligible to apply.
  • students must commit to a full academic year, Fall 2011/Spring 2012
  • cumulative 3.0 GPA or above

Applications are available now; deadline for application is 4 p.m. Friday, March 25. Applications can be obtained at the Professional Leadership Program office, Business Building, 214A or at www.cob.unt.edu/plp.
