Mean Green student-athletes earn academic honors

UNT placed 170 Mean Green student-athletes on academic honor rolls compiled by the Sun Belt Conference for 2010-11.

The 170 honorees were the second-most in the conference, ranking behind Western Kentucky University’s 221. A total of 1,659 student-athletes earned academic honors from the 12-university league.

Sun Belt Conference football had the most student-athletes with 237, while women's soccer placed 219 on both lists. A conference total of 863 student-athletes were comprised of seniors - 463 - or juniors - 400.

UNT landed 79 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List for student-athletes who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in the 2010-11 academic year. The Mean Green placed 91 student-athletes on the Honor Roll, which honors all student-athletes who maintained a 3.0-3.49 GPA.

Two Mean Green sports teams earned perfect multiyear scores - a first in Mean Green history - and seven sports recorded their highest-ever marks on the NCAA's annual Academic Progress Rate report released May 24.
