Make 'em see green!

Mean Green 24, Indiana 21 2011Don your green gear and head to Apogee Stadium to enjoy the third home game of the football season. And, to make the game a total green out, which will - InHouse hopes - confuse and confound the Florida Atlantic owls, and send spirited support to the Mean Green football team. Above, players react at the end of the team’s 24-21 victory over Indiana University.

The Mean Green play Florida Atlantic University at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8. Come early to enjoy tailgating and alumni events, spirit groups, Scrappy and the Green Brigade Band, which marches into the stadium about 4 p.m.

Color-dominated games have become popular at college sports events to show support for the home team. Fans are asked to wear the school’s dominant color, black or white to create a bright blob of color to accompany a boisterous, loud crowd. Pink Out games occur during events that support public awareness for breast cancer research, and red attire is requested for games and community events that are related to heart disease prevention and treatment.

Thanks to a new agreement with the Collegiate Licensing Corporation, wearing green supports the university's brand, in addition to being cool. The licensed items have the official logo, green color and other insignia that support consistent representation of UNT anywhere, any time.

You’ll find UNT branded clothing at the UNT Bookstore, Voertman’s and stores around Denton, and in the Mean Green Gear store on the west side of the stadium.

Don't forget to wear green on Friday, Oct. 7 (and every Friday) to show your green pride in the university's achievements and academic success and to get warmed up for the Green Out.

The next game that needs a green crowd will be Oct. 22 versus Louisiana-Monroe on Homecoming weekend. Enter to win a UNT T-shirt, water bottle and eco-friendly shopping bag. Send an e-mail to InHouse by 5 p.m. Oct. 7 with “Green Out” in the subject line. Winners will be selected at random from all responses.
