Green lights get greater

Hurley Administration green lightsThis year, the Hurley Administration Building tower, above, is shining brighter than ever after the installation of new LED lights in the tower this fall. “The lights were installed after a student observed that the old lights weren’t quite as bright as they could be,” Randy Fite, senior director of facilities said.

The new lights are noticeably brighter.

“The new green LED lights not only provide a brighter updated look to the tower,” Fite said. “The lights also provide a more energy efficient way to show our Mean Green pride.”

The LED lights are expected to provide a 70 percent cost savings compared to the 500 watt quartz lights they replaced.

This project is one of many where UNT Facilities is using energy saving fixtures and new ideas to improve campus appearance and sustainability efforts. UNT Facilities is using LED lights and other energy saving lighting technology such as inductive lighting in some parking lots, and interior fixtures across campus.

So, next time any of our Mean Green teams win, make sure to take a look at the enhanced tower.

  • You can sport a brighter green, too. Enter to win a spirit pack, including a UNT-branded T-shirt, tote bag, water bottle and more. Send an email to InHouse with "LED lights" in the subject line by 5 p.m. Nov. 14. Winners will be chosen at random from all responses.
