Go green, save money on Tax-Free Weekend

The UNT Bookstore offers a discount to employees on Tax Free Weekend.Faculty, staff and students have an extra incentive to shop at the UNT Bookstore during Texas’s tax-free weekend Aug. 17-19 – a 20 percent discount on UNT clothing.

Shoppers will not pay state and local sales tax on most clothing and footwear priced under $100, or on school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 to be used by elementary and secondary school students. Shoppers could save about $8 on every $100 spent. (Sorry, textbooks and computer supplies are not included.)

The UNT Bookstore will extend its hours for the tax-free weekend Aug. 17-18. The hours are:

  • 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17We're All In/Mean Green Pride
  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18
  • 12-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19

Mean Green Pride Days

Beginning Aug. 31, Faculty and staff can don their UNT apparel during Mean Green Pride Fridays and win.

Employees will be entered into a weekly $50 gift card drawing when they wear green on Friday Pride Days and check in at the Mean Green Pride station in the Library Mall. The first drawing will be Sept. 4 (Tuesday after the Monday Labor Day holiday.)

  • Check InHouse for updates throughout the fall semester.

Aug. 31 also is College Colors Day, a national promotion sponsored by ESPN TV sports network. College Colors Day celebrates the beginning of the college football season. Fans can compete for prizes with online support of their favorite school. That would be UNT, of course.

New merchandise

The UNT Bookstore will have new clothing choices starting Aug. 30. Beyond the standard T-shirts, new clothing will be available from the following manufacturers:

  • Meesh and Mia caters to female fans with dresses, scarves and tops with feminine details, such as ruffles – all with UNT colors and logos.
  • Southern Tide features polo shirts and ballcaps for men.
  • Hurley features surf wear style T-shirts, tanks and shorts for men and women.
  • Nike clothing will be the latest Mean Green football sideline gear for men and women.
  • Ping features polo shirts for men.
