Gladys Lundgren Madsen, former music faculty

Gladys Lundgren Madsen obituaryGladys Lundgren Madsen died Jan. 23. She was an assistant professor of music from 1958 to 1965.

Madsen received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in 1942, and a master’s degree from UNT in 1956. She taught music in her home town, Geneva, Ill., and in Dallas, before joining the College of Music.

Madsen was an Honors Day speaker and sorority advisor. She collected musical instruments while traveling around the world and previously donated her collection to UNT.

She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, Classroom Teachers of Dallas and several education organizations. She also was a member of the American Guild of Organists, and served as organist and pianist at several churches for more than 30 years.

Survivors include two nephews and three stepchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva, Ill.
