Fun Fact: What new event will happen at Apogee Stadium?

The 2011 season was for the first for Apogee Stadium. The facility enjoyed rave reviews and earned Platinum LEED certification, and its games attracted near record-setting crowds. What new event will happen at Apogee Stadium in 2012?

A. The stadium will host its first marching band contest.

B. The first nationally televised game will be broadcast.

C. Popcorn will be prepared using recycled cooking oil.

D. The stadium will host the annual robotics decathlon.

The correct answer is B. Apogee Stadium and UNT will be seen by college football fans all over the world when the Mean Green plays Louisiana-Lafayette at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. The game will be broadcast by ESPN2 and will be the first nationally televised game from Apogee Stadium.

Will there be special spirit events for that game? You bet. Check InHouse and Mean Green Sports to learn more in September and October when football season is underway. We’ll definitely want a stadium packed with screaming Mean Green fans to impress viewers and cheer the team to a win. (See image below - OK for summer, but not good for football season.)

In the meantime, get football news from the North Texas Fan Guide, an online publication that includes links to parking maps, the July 28 women’s football clinic, tailgating tips and information about university traditions. The guide, prepared by the Athletics Department, was published July 2 in formats compatible with desktops, laptops, tablets and hand-held devices.

Get ready for kick off and fall’s Green Pride Fridays by stocking up on T-shirts, now on sale through July at the Athletics Department merchandise site. You’ll also need a water bottle to take to Friday Night on the Hill pep rallies before each home game.

So enter to win a water bottle labeled with “A green light to greatness.” Send an email to InHouse with “Bottle” in the subject line by 5 p.m. July 13. Winners will be selected at random from all responses.
