Fun Fact: How many people can mix and mingle?

Addie Jackson enjoys the 2010 faculty-staff holiday party.Hundreds attend the annual Faculty Staff Holiday Party at the University Union's Silver Eagle Suite. Just how many people can fit in the room at one time? Above, Addie Jackson and friends enjoy the 2010 party.

A. 425, the approximate number of Native American students enrolled

B. 600, the number of Emerald Eagle Scholars in the Class of 2014

C. 1,000, the approximate number of faculty members

D. All of the above.*

The correct answer is D: All of the above. When the entire Silver Eagle Suite is used, 600 people can fit into the room with theater seating, 425 people at tables of eight, and 1,000 people for a come-and-go reception.

The maximum number of bodies are expected to be elbow-to-elbow at the 2011 Faculty Staff Holiday Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8. The annual gathering will include a surprise visitor, plenty of food and beverages, and the opportunity to take a break from the workplace to meet and greet colleagues and friends from around the campus.

There are about 140 events held in the Silver Eagle Suite each year, says Zane Reif, director of the University Union. These include seminars, speakers, benefits fairs, student activities, Homecoming festivities, and these:

To book an event in the Silver Eagle Suite, contact University Event Scheduling Services at 940-565-2804, or visit the office on the second floor of the University Union.

Additional event space, plus new and more technology, study areas and dining options, are part of the Master Plan for a new union. A committee of students, faculty and staff has solicited ideas and suggestions about services in a new union, which would require a fee approved by student vote - scheduled April 9, 2012 - and be assessed in 2016 or 2017.

Enter to win a We Mean Green water bottle by sending and email to InHouse by 5 p.m. Dec. 9 with "Silver Eagle" in the subject line. Winners will be selected at random from all responses.

*These populations are actually a bit bigger than Silver Eagle Suite capacity: UNT has 487 Native Americans enrolled in fall 2011, more than 650 Emerald Eagle Scholars in the class of 2014 and 1,069 faculty members.
