Experience, expertise added to research division

Five new staff members joined the Office of Research and Economic Development in Spring 2010. Learn more and find the university’s strategic plan to become a major research university.

  • Michael Mathisen, cost accounting manager

Mathisen brings 16 years of professional experience to UNT in cost accounting management. Prior jobs were at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Raytheon Systems Corporation and Baylor Research Center, where he produced an increase of $400,000 in yearly revenue through negotiations with the federal government. He has an MBA from Texas Christian University and a bachelor of science from the University of Arkansas.

  • Barbara Lindley, senior contract officer

Lindley has more than 25 years of professional experience in the formation, negotiation and management of agreements with companies such as Texas Instruments and Nokia. She also has extensive experience negotiating with international companies and government agencies. She has a bachelor of business administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.

  • Julie West, publications and communications specialist

West has 15 years of experience in documentary production, graphic and web design, digital data management, photo editing and journalism. Former affiliations include The Nature Conservancy, The International Baccalaureate Organization, Rainbow Stock Photography and El Palacio magazine. She has a master of fine arts from the California Institute of the Arts and a bachelor of arts from Trinity University.

  • Kristie Wright, grant officer

Wright was formerly with the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio, where she negotiated contract terms with corporations, federal agencies and local governments. She received a master of accountancy and a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

  • Jaya Vaidyanathan, research information systems manager

Vaidyanathan previously developed and implemented research and information systems for the Office of Research Services at the University of Pennsylvania, a top tier research university. She received a master of information and computer science from the University of California Irvine, and a bachelor of chemical engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, India.
