Equal opportunity director joins HR staff

Chinten Parkih, director, Human Resources Equal OpportunityChinten Parikh, right,is now director of equal opportunity for UNT System Human Resources, which serves campuses in Denton, Dallas and Fort Worth.

As director, Parikh is responsible for strategic and operational activities related to statutory and regulatory requirements for diversity and inclusion and cultural competencies, including:

  • Affirmative action
  • Equal opportunity
  • Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Veterans’ preference
  • Organizational diversity

He also is responsible for policies and training related to discrimination and harassment, and oversees development of policies that address equal opportunity compliance and non-discriminatory hiring procedures.

Parikh formerly was senior consultant for diversity, compliance and cultural competency at Baylor Scott & White Health Care System, Dallas, which includes about 34,000 employees in 500 locations. Duties included creation of diversity strategies to support change management and organizational effectiveness; affirmative action planning; cultural competency management; executive diversity programs.

Prior to joining Baylor Scott & White, Parikh was manager of workplace diversity and development at DFW International Airport,  and director of diversity and people development at Accor North America, a global hospitality and hotel corporation headquartered in Carrollton.  He also has been national director of training for the Job Corps National Training Institute, Dallas, and the New Orleans Job Corps Center.

Parikh received a bachelor’s degree in organizational psychology from Louisiana State University and an MBA from American Intercontinental University. He also has completed doctoral courses at the University of Houston and Xavier University, New Orleans.

He holds the senior professional certification from the Society for Human Resources Management, the world’s largest organization for human resources management, and is a certified harassment prevention trainer, diversity trainer and mentoring facilitator.

Parikh also is affiliated with the Texas Diversity Council, Dallas Human Resources Management Association and the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce.

UNT System Human Resources supports the five components of the UNT System in Dallas, Denton and Fort Worth as a shared service. The UNT System, like other leading universities, non-profits and corporations, is utilizing shared services functions to better serve faculty, staff, students and retirees.

Other shared services are the Business Service Center and Information Technology shared services.
