Enjoy a weekend vacation with an expert guide - a faculty member

Plan a weekend vacation or day trip with the Travel Learn program, and come home with some new knowledge.

The Travel Learn program is sponsored by the Center for Achievement and Lifelong Learning, CALL, and offers trips enhanced with faculty knowledge and expertise.

Spring 2011 trips include:

  • April 11 - Cowboys Stadium Art Tour - The trip will be led by faculty member Annette Lawrence, professor of studio art. Lawrence has a commissioned work at Cowboys Stadium, which hosted the NFL's SuperBowl XLV Feb. 6. The tour will include transportation, guide, lunch and lecture by Lawrence.
  • April 14 – 17 - New York Theatre Trip - The trip will be led by Emeritus College faculty member Julie Brinker. Brinker is the outreach director at the Denton Community Theatre. The tour includes premium seats to a Broadway play, an off-Broadway play and a Broadway musical.
  • May 20 – 22Mark Twain Trip - Participants will travel to Hannibal, Mo., to tour the writer's birthplace and museum, enjoy a river cruise along the Mississippi River and the Mark Twain cave tour, made famous in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The trip will be led by David Kesterson, Emeritus College professor and former provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Other tentatively planned trip are summer golf in Iceland and a fall trip to Prague and Southern Moravia.

In October 2010, David Holdeman, professor and chair of the English Department, accompanied travelers to Ireland, where he led discussions about Irish literature and history. The group also attended the Cork Jazz Festival, which included a performance by the One O'Clock Lab Band.

Another group of travel learn participants explored the sub-Antarctic biocultural conservation program in Chile in January.
