Electronic performers take stage

electronic musicExperimental musicians from around the world will gather at UNT for a conference and series of evening performances delving into the art of electroacoustic music and intermedia. The two avenues of experimental music often combine computer or electronically generated art and non-traditional forms of performance media including sounds, visuals and both traditional and non-traditional instrumentations and performance practices.

The International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music Conference began Oct. 1 and continues through Oct. 4 and is hosted by the UNT College of Music’s Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia. Founded in 1963, the center was one of the first electronic music studios at a university in the central United States, and it was also one of the first to explore combinations of film, theater and dance with experimental music.

Free concerts take place inside the UNT Music Building. The 8 p.m. Oct. 3 concert will be in the Merrill Ellis Intermedia Theater. The 8 p.m. Oct. 4 concert will be in Voertman Hall.

The public may also view installation works and attend lectures and presentations given by the organization’s members. Works from attendees of this international festival come from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, France, Greece, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and Ukraine. Throughout the conference, participants will collaborate and explore topics surrounding the future of acoustic music within emerging technologies, global trends in the field and the impact of the internet and new technologies on the development and spread of this electronic art.
