Early closure gives campus a head start on winter break

President V. Lane RawlinsDec. 8, 2011

Dear UNT staff members,

Your dedication to helping our students and supporting our university’s growth is one of the things I enjoy most about being a part of the UNT family. This afternoon, during the holiday party, I announced that I am closing the university at noon on Dec. 23 to provide you an early start to the holiday break.

Of course, university personnel identified as essential must be present at their work places, unless otherwise notified by their supervisors. And, only those employees whose regular work schedule includes working past 12 noon on Dec. 23, 2011, can receive Administrative Leave.

I’m told that the closure will be recorded as University Administrative Leave time (UNVAD) on the timesheet in EIS Time and Labor. This will allow for the correct calculation of comp time where appropriate. The number of hours of paid time off is prorated by FTE (e.g., full-time employees with an 8 to 5 schedule would receive 4 hours, while half-time employees who are scheduled to work 1 to 5 would receive 2 hours, etc). Hourly employees will only be paid for the time they physically work. The BSC HR staff will send instructions to all timekeepers to help ensure this leave is recorded accurately for everyone.

Thank you all for everything you do each day to make UNT great. I hope that all of you will enjoy this season of joy and thanksgiving with your friends and family.
