Cooking with Blythe Beck

Chef Blythe Beck

Garlic crusted prime rib, cheddar biscuits with brown sugar butter and Maker’s Mark banana pudding – versions of decadent delights from the Pink Magnolia restaurant – will be among the culinary creations of celebrity chef Blythe Beck for the UNT Guest Chef Day. Beck, executive chef and co-owner of the Oak Cliff restaurant, will lead students who run UNT’s Club at Gateway in preparation of the “swanky Southern style” luncheon April 5.

Each semester, the students invite a culinary master to campus to work alongside them as they learn the ins-and-outs of the hospitality industry.

This year, they asked Beck, a UNT alumna with a resume that includes a stint starring in the The Naughty Kitchen with Chef Blythe Beck, appearances on Beat Bobby Flay and a new gig hosting the Spice of Blythe on the CW33’s NewsFix.

Part of a UNT class, the Club at Gateway provides students in the hospitality management program with hands-on experience in running a successful hospitality business. Meal preparation is a key ingredient, but students also cook up plans for budgeting, employee management, menu selection and marketing.

Seating for Guest Chef Day is from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at UNT’s Club at Gateway, located in the Gateway Center at 801 North Texas Blvd. in Denton. Meals cost $10, cash or check. Call 940-565-4144, or make a reservation online.

About Blythe Beck

An alumna of UNT’s hospitality management program, Blythe Beck developed a passion for the culinary arts while studying at UNT and went on to become an acclaimed celebrity chef known for creating upscale, southern comfort food. Her resume includes a starring role in Oxygen’s The Naughty Kitchen with Chef Blythe Beck and appearances on the Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay. She has served in executive chef roles at Hector’s, Central 214 and Kitchen LTO. Beck is currently co-owner and the executive chef at the Pink Magnolia, located in the Oak Cliff suburb of Dallas. She also hosts the Spice of Blythe on the CW33’s NewsFix.
