Construction begins for relocated bookstore, food pavilion

Proposed new University Union, 2012Construction activities are beginning across campus in preparation for the University of North Texas’ new University Union, above. Services housed in the current University Union will be relocating through the summer.

On Monday, May 6, construction fences will go up to begin work on modular buildings housing the UNT Bookstore and a food pavilion.

The modular bookstore will be located on the Northwest corner of Avenue C and Chestnut Street behind McConnell Hall. Some parking spaces in Lot 5 will be affected by the construction. Additional “D” parking is available in Lot 26 along Highland Street and Lot 9 at the corner of Avenue C and Mulberry Street.

The food pavilion will be located on the north end of the Campus Green between Sycamore Hall and Sage Hall. The food pavilion will open Monday, Aug. 12, and will house Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell and Boar’s Head Deli. The pavilion also will offer pizza and freshly made “grab and go” salads and sandwiches.

Mail Services for internal campus mail will relocate to the University Services Building (USB) Wednesday, May 8. The primary impact on campus will be receiving one mail run on moving day, May 8. Regular services will resume Thursday, May 9 from the new location. The USB is located on Allen Saxe Drive, west of North Texas Boulevard and north of Fouts Field. If you have questions about internal campus mail services, call 940-565-2286.

The U.S. Post Office located in the University Union will relocate to Stovall Hall over the summer with as little disruption to normal service as possible. More information will be shared as this move nears.

Construction on the University Union is expected to begin in June 2013 and be completed in summer 2015.
