Come early, wear green, be loud, stay late

The first weekend in November brings a flurry of fall activity to campus:

  • More than 5,000 potential students will be on campus for the annual fall UNT Preview, an overview of academics, student life and financial services. UNT Preview is completely reserved, no more spaces are available for the presentations, campus tours, information sessions and tailgating that give future students and their families insight into the campus. The free event is hosted by the Office of Admissions and takes place each fall and spring. The next UNT Preview will be April 2.
  • The Mean Green football team will be back at home Nov. 6 for a game versus Troy, one of two remaining games at Fouts Field. Parking lots 19 and 20 will be closed at 8 a.m. Nov. 6.
  • Fall weather is expected to be here this week. Take advantage of the 10 percent staff discount (except on media and computers) on items at the UNT Bookstore to find warm green attire. Wear green on Friday, and then don a UNT–branded item to stay cozy while cheering the Mean Green. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures in the 50s by game time.
  • We’ll all have an extra hour to enjoy the weekend, since Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Nov. 7. Remember to set clocks back one hour before going to sleep.

The Mean Green returns home after a 33-6 win at Western Kentucky. Two players received Player of the Week honors in the Sun Belt Conference. Lance Dunbar, above, rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns, the most by any Sun Belt player this year. Zack Olen kicked two field goals, including a 48-yard score that was the longest for UNT since 2005.

Fouts Field Finale logoThe Nov. 6 game versus Troy begins at 6 p.m. Come early, wear green, be loud, stay late. Enter to win a UNT T-shirt by sending an e-mail to InHouse with “Troy” in the subject line by 5 p.m. Nov. 5. Winners will be selected at random from all responses.

The Mean Green will play at Middle Tennessee Nov. 13 and at Louisiana – Monroe Nov. 20 before returning to Fouts Field. The stadium, which opened in 1952, will host its final home football game at 3 p.m. Nov. 27 when Kansas State comes to campus.

A new $78 million stadium, now under construction adjacent to Victory Hall and the Athletics office, will open for the 2011 season. The Mean Green also will have a new head coach.
