Coliseum to serve as backup venue for commencement

Dear faculty and staff,

I am excited to come together as the UNT family at Apogee Stadium Saturday night to commemorate our graduates. We have created a plan to relocate the University-wide Commencement in case there is severe weather on Saturday and will make the call Saturday morning, May 16.

If severe weather is forecasted for Saturday night, we will:

  • Relocate the University-wide Commencement from Apogee Stadium to the UNT Coliseum. It will start at 8 p.m. and follow the same general format, as the venue allows.
  • The College of Arts and Sciences College Recognition ceremonies at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. will include degree conferral. Graduates of all other colleges will be conferred at commencement at the Coliseum.
  • The University-wide Commencement ceremony will be broadcast live on television screens in the Murchison Performing Arts Center and the Gateway Center Ballroom so that College of Arts and Sciences graduates and their guests can be a part of the ceremony.

We will provide an update online, no matter the decision. In the event of a commencement relocation, the college recognition ceremonies are not expected to be impacted and would proceed as planned.

You can check for official updates through these channels:

Neal SmatreskPlease make sure to share this information with students who are graduating or anyone else who is working or planning to attend Commencement so they know in advance what to expect. The safety and well-being of our university community and guests will be the utmost priority in making the decision. Until then, get ready for a fantastic celebration!

UNT Proud,
