City to conduct smoke testing of wastewater system

July 7, 2013

Beginning July 7 and for the next few days, City of Denton inspection crews will smoke test the wastewater collection system on and around the UNT campus. The survey will be used to repair and improve the wastewater collection system.

Smoke testing consists of blowing harmless, odorless smoke into the sanitary sewer system to locate damaged pipes and improper connections and show areas where unwanted storm water enters the system.

During testing, white smoke will exit through vent pipes on the roofs of homes and buildings and through sewer line breaks. The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue and creates no fire hazard. The smoke should not enter any buildings unless defective plumbing exists or drain traps are dry.

If you notice smoke in your building, please contact Facilities work control at extension 2700.

Should you have any additional questions concerning this study please contact City of Denton Engineering at 940-349-8910.
