Campus will be closed again Feb. 4

Feb. 3, 2011

Dear UNT community,

RawlinsOur region continues to experience hazardous weather-related conditions. Roadways continue to be dangerous, especially the overpasses. And more accumulation of snow is possible tonight, Feb. 3, and tomorrow, Feb. 4, while the temperature is expected to stay below freezing.

On our campus, sidewalks and parking lots are still covered in ice. While we are no longer experiencing forced power outages, UNT is continuing to do what we can to conserve utilities until temperatures moderate.

To ensure the continued safety of our university community and to conserve energy, I have decided UNT will continue to be closed tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 4). While Saturday, Feb. 5, isn’t a workday for most UNT faculty and staff members, we will send you a message tomorrow about how things look for the weekend. If we’re open, we’ll give you a snapshot about the expected campus conditions for parking lots, sidewalks and building access.

I continue to recommend that you don’t go to our campus unless it’s absolutely necessary. There will be no classes held on campus and offices at UNT will continue to be closed on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011.

Campus closures do not impact online courses so WebCT classes and online testing will continue as scheduled.

I continue to be appreciative of the commitment of UNT’s “essential” personnel, such as police, facilities, dining, housing and others, who’ve made their way to work through the cold and ice to provide services that care for our students and keep our campus safe. I also appreciate the efforts of employees who have worked from home to ensure that our computing, communication and other services are provided.

As you know, Feb. 1 was a payday. In anticipation of bad weather, the Payroll Office offered departments paychecks the afternoon of Jan.  31. If you do not receive your pay via direct deposit and have not received your paycheck, it will be available to you when our campus reopens. Supplemental checks should be available the afternoon of the day we resume normal operations. As usual, all paychecks should be picked up in your department.

Stay safe and warm!
