Campus picking up after storm

UNT awning stormSeveral campus buildings sustained damage as multiple hail and wind storms blew through Denton April 3. The campus community should use caution in those areas as repair work may be ongoing.

The most significant damage occurred at  West Hall, where high winds peeled off a 35-foot by 70-foot section of the roof’s top layer. That debris landed in the parking lot north of the residence hall, knocking over a street light and damaging vehicles and a grounds maintenance storage shed.

Fourteen students in West Hall were moved to different rooms because of the roof damage.

Broken glass was reported at the greenhouse at Discovery Park and in the Life Sciences Complex.

Some roof damage also was reported on the University Services Building, and an awning was blown down at UNT on the Square, above, in downtown Denton.

UNT Facilities is looking into other reports of damage as they come in and is working to mitigate them as quickly as possible.
