Busy days are ahead at Apogee Stadium

Spring Football Game

The April 12-14 weekend will be a busy one for Mean Green Athletics. A variety of sports activities are scheduled, including the 2012 Hall of Fame Luncheon, Green and White Spring Football game and a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new basketball practice facility.

The weekend also is filled with other events, including a fun run, Mean Green tennis and Premiere Weekend, whicn brings admitted students to UNT for a pre-enrollment taste of campus life.

Here’s a look at the activities:

North Texas Tennis – The tennis team will play their last match of the season against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at 3 p.m. April 12 and the Troy Trojans at 11 a.m. April 14, both at Waranch Tennis Complex.

Touchdown Fun RunNorth Texas Athletics Touchdown 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run – Participants can run in this event, with proceeds going to student athlete scholarships. The event will start at 7 a.m. April 13 and end on the 50 yard line of Apogee Stadium. Participants will receive a T-shirt, snacks and a stadium tour. Registration is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the 1 Mile Fun Run before April 13.

Basketball facility – The newly renovated practice courts for the men’s and women’s basketball teams will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony 9 a.m. April 13 at the Mean Green Village, across from the volleyball gym. Funds for the facility were raised by a group of alumni led by Ernie Kuehne Jr.

Flag Football game – Members of the GoMeanGreen.com online community and former Mean Green athletes will play in this game, sponsored by GoMeanGreen.com to benefit the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund. The event, which will include a silent auction, will begin at 10 a.m. April 13 at Apogee Stadium.

Athletic Surplus Garage Sale – North Texas Athletics will sell surplus equipment and apparel beginning at 12:30 p.m. April 13 at Apogee Stadium, Gate 2.

Alumni Pavilion Party – The UNT Alumni Association will sponsor this free party for members and non-members from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 13 at the pavilion on the east side of Apogee Stadium. Learn more at alumni@unt.edu or 940-565-2834.

2012 Hall of Fame Luncheon - Five athletes will be inducted into the 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame luncheon at 11:30 a.m. April 13 at Apogee Stadium, Club Level. Tickets cost $100 for an eight-person table and $15 for single seats.

Green and White Spring Game – The annual scrimmage, which marks the end of spring practice for the Mean Green football team and Head Coach Dan McCarney, will begin at 2 p.m. April 13 at Apogee Stadium.

Greek Preview Day – Incoming freshmen, transfer students and their families can learn more about fraternities and sororities during this daylong session April 13. The session, sponsored by the Office of Greek Life, includes an organization fair, panels and tour of on-campus Greek housing. Participants can attend a tailgate lunch on The Hill prior to the football game.

Premiere WeekendAdmitted students of the Class of 2017 can get a sneak peek of life at UNT April 12-13 with mock classes, campus tours and a tailgate lunch on The Hill.

You'll be so imbued with Green Pride, that you'll want to be sure you have plenty of UNT-branded clothing and gifts. Find 'em at the which you'll find at the stadium store, on the west side by the ticket office, and at North Texas merchants. Maybe you'll win some cool stuff, too: enter to win a UNT spirit pack (shoping bag, T-shirt, water bottle, lapel pin) by sending an email to InHouse with "Green and White Weekend" in the subject line by 5 p.m. April 5. Winners will be selected at random from all responses.
