Bush elected to high-ranking post for statewide organization

Jean BushSenior Associate Vice President for Finance Jean Bush has been elected treasurer of the Texas Association of State Senior College & University Business Officers (TASSCUBO), the statewide organization for business leaders in higher education and health related institutions.

Bush said she was honored to be elected by her professional peers. Her duties will include managing fees for the organization’s two meetings each year as well as processing purchases and payments related to TASSCUBO events and meetings. She will be responsible for safeguarding the assets and providing periodic reports to TASSCUBO.

“I think that any time an individual can serve their professional organization, it brings credibility and prestige to the employer,” she said. “It means UNT has a seat on the executive committee of TASSCUBO.”

She said TASSCUBO gives higher education leaders an opportunity to connect with fellow members about common issues. Through the years, the organization has spearheaded many statewide projects, such as conducting research and contributing information to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  Members of the organization typically serve on state-wide committees, such as the formula funding committees.

“State organizations and leaders look to TASSCUBO for answers to fiscal questions resulting in legislative or agency action, for example,” she said.

Bush’s appointment reflects Bold Goal 3 in UNT’s Four Bold Goals.

  • Bold Goal 3 – Become a national leader among universities in student support, employee relations, operational effectiveness and service to constituencies.

Vice President for Finance and Administration Andrew Harris said Bush’s election to TASSCUBO’s executive committee, as well as his acceptance to the Fulbright Educational Experts Seminar in October in Germany, both reflect UNT’S leadership in fiscal matters.

“What these honors really say is that UNT has a strong team of financial leaders providing responsible leadership that taxpayers expect and deserve,” Harris said.

Bush began working at UNT in 1983 as an accounting clerk. She earned her degree in accounting control systems in 1996 and rose through the ranks, becoming budget manager and budget director before she moved to her current position in 2006.

She attributed her rise to “hard work and hard work.”

“I was just determined to do a good job for UNT,” she said. “I have been very fortunate that I work for and with people who appreciate that.”
