Bill Carrico, UNT football player and Denton native

Bill Carrico, 79, passed away on Sunday, February 14.

Carrico was a longtime local sports figure in the Denton community, playing football at Denton High School and UNT before serving 36 years as a Denton ISD coach and administrator. In 2013, Carrico was one of 26 players named to UNT’s All-Century Team.

Carrico developed into one of the best players in UNT history in his short time with the program. He was a member of the Williamson All-American team as an offensive lineman in 1959 and helped lead North Texas to the Missouri Valley Conference title in 1958 and a share of the MVC title in 1959.

He was a member of UNT teams that helped integrate the program in 1956 and helped Denton High School do the same when he coached there from 1963-78.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna, and three children. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 19th, at 4:30 p.m. at Denton Bible Church.
