Beloit College Mindset List creators to visit Sept. 18

Wonder what a freshman is thinking? Find out more about this year’s incoming class of freshmen in an open campus forum with the creators of the popular Beloit College Mindset List.

For 15 years, the list has identified the “cultural touchstones” offering clarity to a freshman’s point of view each fall. Creators Ron Nief, director emeritus of public affairs at Beloit College, and Tom McBride, professor of English and Gayle and William Keefer Professor of the Humanities at Beloit College, will discuss their collaboration on the Beloit College Mindset List and share insight on the incoming freshman class from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in Matthews Hall, Room 311.

Originally created to warn faculty to “watch their references,” the lists have been reprinted in hundreds of print and electronic publications and received recognition from around the world.

This collegiate duo has worked together on several other projects including their book “The Mindset Lists of American History: From Typewriters to Text Messages, What Ten Generations of Americans Think is Normal” that is heavily influenced by their annual lists.
