Art faculty announce recent publications, achievements

Recent achievements by faculty and alumni of the Department of Art Education and Art History in the College of Visual Arts and Design:

  • Denise Baxter, assistant professor of art history, wrote Architectural Space in Eighteenth-Century Europe: Constructing Identities and Interiors. The book was published by Ashgate.
  • Christina Bain, associate professor of art education, co-authored an article How Do Novice Art Teachers Define and Implement Meaningful Curriculum? in the journal Studies in Art Education.
  • Dawn Stienecker, doctoral student in art education and teaching fellow, published Art Cars:  Transformations of the Mundane in the May issue of Art Education.
  • Terry Barrett, professor of art education, wrote the chapter, Aesthetics, Conversations, and Social Change, published in Essays on Aesthetic Education for the 21st Century, on pages 123-142, published by Sense Publishers, Rotterdam.

Other achievements include:

  • Alumna Charisse Weston received the highly competitive Museum of Fine Arts Houston internship for summer 2010.
  • Paul Niell, assistant professor of art history, and Kelly Donahue-Wallace, chair, Department of Art Education and Art History, raised more than $13,000 from the Kress Foundation, Wells Fargo, and the Charn Uswachoke Fund in support of the Sept. 17 symposium The Politics of Taste in 18th- and 19th-Century Latin America.
