Annual benefits enrollment scheduled July 22-Aug. 4

Campus crowdsAnnual enrollment for employee insurance plans under the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) begins July 22 and ends Aug. 4. UNT employees will have this two-week enrollment period to make benefit changes for Plan Year 2014, which begins Sept. 1.

Employees will need to sign-in to their online ERS account to make changes. No changes may be made after the two-week annual enrollment period. Find a guide in the attached pdf.

Employees can make the following changes:

  • Enroll in United Healthcare HealthSelect.
  • Select the Opt-Out Credit option with comparable health coverage.
  • Enroll in or change to one of two dental plans offered.
  • Enroll in Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
  • Drop employee and/or dependent coverage.
  • Add or apply for dependent coverage.
  • Apply for Short-term Disability and Long-term Disability, Dependent Term Life Insurance, or Optional Term Life Insurance (EOI is required for these benefits.)
  • Drop, enroll in or change TexFlex elections. (Healthcare maximum is $2,500 as of Sept. 1.)

*All changes made during Annual Enrollment will be effective Sept. 1, 2013.

ERS has listed the Plan Year 2014 Insurance Premium Rates  on the right side of the ERS website in a PDF titled “PY 2014 Rates.”  These rates are effective Sept. 1, 2013 – Aug. 31, 2014.

Tobacco Certification

Employees who have not certified their tobacco use for themselves or any dependents enrolled in the Group Benefits Plan must certify their status as a tobacco user or non-user during Annual Enrollment.  If you do not certify yourself and your dependents, you will be charged a monthly tobacco user premium up to $90 per household per month starting Sept. 1, 2013. Follow these certification instructions online through ERS or call 866-399-6908.

30 Hour Employees

As required by the federal Affordable Care Act, effective Sept. 1, 2013, all state and higher education employees working at least 30 hours per week are considered full-time employees for health insurance coverage. Beginning Sept. 1, 2013 if an employee works at least 30 hours a week in a benefits eligible position, the state will pay 100 percent of the employee's health insurance premium.
