Angela Wilson to serve as interim associate vice provost for faculty

angela wilsonTuesday, May 12, 2015

I am very pleased to announce that Regents Professor of Chemistry Angela Wilson, left, has agreed to serve as the interim Associate Vice Provost for Faculty, overseeing the Office of Faculty Success. Wilson has served as an administrative intern in the Office of the Provost since 2013. In her new role, she will direct a comprehensive portfolio, including programming and support for new faculty, mentoring networks, faculty awards and recognition, leadership development and faculty advocacy. Wilson will be balancing this work with her research activities.

I already have shared information with you about Christy Crutsinger, who moved from the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Success to interim Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. She assumed oversight responsibilities in key areas, including student success and retention, academic outreach and supplementary education. Crutsinger continues to have oversight of the Office of Faculty Success.

Vice Provost for Academic Resources Allen Clark will continue in his current role as both chief academic budget officer and faculty human research officer with oversight of academic management information systems, accreditation and the QEP. He also has agreed to provide oversight of Academic IT. Vice Provost for UNT International Rick Nader also continues in his current role.

In addition to changes within the Office of the Provost, we recently have had changes within UNT’s colleges.

College of Engineering Dean Costantinos (Costas) Tsatsoulis will be leading the Toulouse Graduate School for an interim period, as Mark Wardell joins the Department of Sociology faculty full time.

UNT also has appointed coordinators for the four major academic concentrations within the College of Arts and Sciences. Professor and Department Chair of Biology Art Goven will serve as the coordinator for math and science; Professor Melinda Levin will coordinate for communication, media and performance; Professor Jim Meernik will coordinate for the social sciences; and Professor Harold Tanner will coordinate for the humanities area. The coordinators all have a breadth of university administrative experiences they will rely on as they synchronize efforts in the areas of curricular alignment, grants, laboratory space and other opportunities. They will be led in these activities by their interim Dean David Holdeman.

I am looking forward to soon welcoming a new dean of the College of Visual Arts and Design, Greg Watts, whom we will formally announce shortly.

Finley GravesFinally, Dean of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Sciences Glenisson de Oliveira continues, in addition to his TAMS duties, to provide interim oversight of the Honors College.

Thank you for the deep commitment to our students that you exhibit every day through your work.

Finley Graves,

Interim Provost
